PDF (Adobe Reader): Add alt text to images (Pro version)

Open the 'Prepare for accessibility' tool
Select 'Add alternate text'
Enter a description of the image
Mark the image as decorative if it is not essential

Instructions

  1. Open PDF in Adobe Acrobat Pro. Go to All tools > Prepare for accessibility. NB: sometimes you will need to select View more to find this.
  2. Select Add Alternate Text.
  3. Acrobat highlights each image. Add a short description for each relevant image and Save & Close.
  4. Or you can mark decorative images as such and Save & Close.
